We have teamed up with Macfarlane Robson Fine Art to present paintings in both oils and watercolour. Curated by Euan Robson, the exhibition includes works by Tom Scott and a spectacular view of Jedburgh Abbey by Arthur Perigal.
Tom Scott was born in Selkirk in 1854, the son of a tailor, and studied at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. He painted in Europe and Africa and eventually settled in the town. He was elected a Royal Scottish Academician in 1902 and is well
known for his fine watercolours of the Borders.
Other artists include George Houston RSW RSA, 1869 – 1947, Sir James Lawton Wingate PRSA, 1846 – 1927, Donald Moodie RSA, 1892 – 1963, William Stewart MacGeorge RSA, 1861 – 1931, and Charles Oppenheimer RSA 1875 – 1961.
These artists painted in many parts of Scotland from Skye to Philiphaugh in the Borders. Their aim was to capture the spirit and essence of the country. They skilfully captured a milieu and environment that is not as widespread today.
