Summer Light
Minna Lilljakku • Kate Hajducka
Wednesday 16 August – Saturday 16 September 2023
New oils and mixed media concerned with the relationship of humans to the plants and animals around us.
Minna Lilljakku Minna Lilljakku is Finnish; and living in Finland. She has sent us seven beautifully drawn works on nature, in Nuuksio National Park, Finland.
She has drawn and painted wild deer for this exhibition, putting them with ancient Finnish symbols and her own symbolic colours and emblems. She makes many layered pictures using ink, watercolour and printing.
Kate Hajducka She uses oil, beeswax and gesso, drawing and scratching into it. Very aware of the spaces between the forms, and the colour relationship as she builds up layers.
She has a degree in illustration at Brighton School of Art and Art Therapy at Queen Margaret’s Edinburgh.
Both of them draw to know and understand their subject and have created delicately affecting pictures which quietly put the case for appreciating and preserving wildness.
