Val Menon
1960 Born in Darlington, Co. Durham. Childhood in Swaledale, North Yorkshire; now living in Edinburgh.
1986 - 1989 BA (Hons) Fine Art (2:1), Trent Polytechnic Nottingham
Taught by the Painters Peter Cartwright, David Willetts and the late David Measures.
Work held in private collections including the former Liverpool Polytechnic and the Eastern General Hospital Collections.
I am aiming to create a strong visual memory. I try to spend time in a place looking closely and observing. Sitting, looking and preparing leads to mixing and mark making through a tentative process of layering and recording. Sketching becomes painting. My paintings become almost abstract. I enjoy the movement and play of light and colour hoping I can take some control.
